The Saturday 26th May was the retirement presentation for my Fire & rescue service watch manger, whom i have worked alongside since i joined. There have been many many changes in Highlands and Islands Fire and rescue service in recent years. My Watch manager Sandy had been in for 25 years. It seemed fitting that I painted a picture of him in action for a retirement gift. It was from a photo taken at one of his last call outs on active duty, a wild fire high in the hills of Skye one hot summers day.
The background and main colours blocked in.
The man himself at his presentation.
Sandy gets presented with his Axe from Group manager Anthony who worked closely with us years ago when he was our district officer. He spoke about the changes this unit has gone through and the work that Sandy did in pushing for a new station and better equipment.
Sandy was also presented with a little memento from the crew, a burnt hose coupling!
here we all are, Some of Lochcarron unit, past and present, and representatives from Torridon, Applecross and Kyle, with station and Group managers. That’s a lot of fires and a lot of stories between us.
