Balnacra Arts by Vicky Stonebridge

Ceangal day 3. more site visits & field trips

a second full day of excursions, each visit we do is a completely different landscape, a different set of flora, different light and smells. art ideas start to cut through the clutter of questions, boxes, labels definitions. I love autumn, the flowers, leaves and berries bedeck the trees like treasure, so wonderful to get to go out in it instead of hunched over the computer jumping to the tune of e-mailed demands. So looking forward to settling down to do some art work, i’ve come home to collect tools, materials and my dog, i’ve come home to e-mailed demands. It is like a fight to escape, a fight to be an artist instead of administrator, a fight to cut the cobweb threads other people tangle, a fight  to allow the golden threads of fate to weave their own patterns.

What art shall i do? well we need to all create a presentation to show the other artists and any public wishing to attend, this will help re focus my mind on what it is i think i am think i do and shatter the barriers to doing more, new, different. Then we need to do some sketches, ideas, designs, to show the public and to get permission from landowners etc if needed. Difficult to pin down, i think i will be working in the landscape reacting directly with materials to hand, many ideas of shapes and structures. Circles, cycles, patterns, weave, knot-work, faith, the little people, the ancients, the elements, the animals, the spirits. places and spaces, sacred spaces, blessings, wishes and hopes, words and marks. enclosed enclosing, circles, held, protected, encircled, trees, harvest, natures treasure. This is what i am working on. Watch this space…

It was great to meet Yogesh Mahida today, an artist from Gujarat. He's worked with a few mutual friends so it was lovely to meet him myself at last. He threw a cracking big bowl while at the studio, great skills! #masterpotter #artist #ceramics #pottery #wheelthrown #bowl #clay
